Process
Pennsylvania Act 287 of 1974, as amended by Pennsylvania Act 181 of 2006, requires contractors and homeowners to call Pennsylvania's One Call 811 number at least three working days before digging or excavating. Pennsylvania One Call will notify all member utilities of your plan to dig. The utilities will then mark the underground facilities. Striking an underground electric or natural gas line can cause serious injury, damage and service interruptions.
Every digging project, no matter how large or small, requires a call to 811. Installing a mailbox, building a deck, planting a tree and laying a patio are all examples of projects where a call to 811 should be one of the first steps. For additional information, call Pennsylvania One Call System, Inc. at 800-242-1776.
